FAQs

You may be wondering how to interpret that little sticker on the bottom of our jars. No, it is not a ‘Best Before’ date. Instead it is a unique code we use to track when a product was made and which batch it came from. The code does not resemble a date so as not to be mistaken for an expiry date. ‘Best Before’ dates are not required on shelf stable products like ours, although many producers choose to use them. We feel however, the lack of regulations in Canada surrounding ‘Best Before’ dates and ‘Expiry’ dates cause far too much confusion and contributes to too many people throwing away perfectly good food. In an effort to help prevent unnecessary food waste we have opted to use batch codes rather than ‘Best Before’ dates.

So, what does this mean for you? Well, if you have forgotten about a jar in the back of your cupboard and are unsure, open it. If it smells funky or looks off, throw it out. Use your best judgment, but remember, that little sticker on the bottom was never going to tell you if a product had gone off anyway, only when it was ‘Best Before’. If you’re still unsure feel free to contact us with your batch number and we will be happy to look it up for you.

We do our best to keep our shelves fully stocked but our products are made the old fashioned way, in small batches, so we sometimes sellout quickly. Orders are shipped within 1-5 business days after an order is placed. The length of time in which you receive your order will depend on a few factors such as the shipping method you have selected, as well as the location of the shipping address.

We currently only ship within Canada.

It’s no secret that we’ve been known to eat the whole jar in one sitting, but if you’d prefer to savor yours we won’t mind. Once opened, we recommend that our products be stored in the refrigerator and consumed within 6 months, although we don’t expect they’ll last that long. Dry Herb Mixes should be stored in a cool, dry cupboard or pantry once opened and will remain fresh for a year or longer. Herb Mixes that are past their prime wont make you sick, but will loose their flavour overtime.

Unopened products can be stored at room temperature in your cupboard or pantry for up to a year or two. Open products should be stored in the refrigerator and consumed within 6 months.

No, our products do not contain nuts, however they are produced in a facility that is not nut free.

All our products are made from fresh ingredients and in small batches, so not every batch will be the same. We buy from small local growers, and crops are always subject to the weather. Some tomatoes or peppers, might be deeper in colour than others, just as some jalapenos might be hotter. But generally speaking, the taste of the products should be much the same.

We use Canola Oil because it is a tasteless versatile oil, with a better health proposition than similar oils. Canola Oil is recognized by many professional health organizations worldwide and allows us to keep our products very low in saturated fat content. From our research, Canola Oil is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids and has been shown in many clinical trials to lower LDL cholesterol levels (the type associated with coronary heart disease), as well as total cholesterol.

We are not a certified gluten free facility, however many of our products are gluten free. We do use things like beer, soy sauce and in some of our products, so sure to read the ingredient list which is available on the side of each product, and also on each product page in our online shop.

Our fruits, berries and veggies are harvested from small, local growers in the Okanagan Valley who share our pursuit for quality. They may not all be certified organic but they practice good farming methods and they pick “fresh” and “ripe” ensuring quality in our jars.

We are located in Kelowna, BC, the heart of the Okanagan Valley. Known for our lush-orchards and sprawling vineyards nestled among clear blue lakes and sun-dappled hills. The Okanagan Valley is home to some of Canada’s best fruits and vegetables.
